Pensacola-Biloxi-New Orleans-Florida Road Trip
Mom had the 'itch' to visit Biloxi but preferred not to travel alone. So we decided a 4 day road trip was the right thing to do before Thanksgiving and Christmas. To coordinate the trip and photo opportunities, we put an itinerary together that would match both of our interests. Time in the car was not a problem - me driving and Mom on the iPad with frequent body jerks, warnings, how to drive instructions and snoozing ... we made it to each destination.
Pensacola Naval Air Museum was the first stop that was an awesome display of aircraft and more. We did take a short drive over to capture the Pensacola Lighthouse. We now headed to Biloxi - gambling, beautiful rooms and great food (and of course the high roller club drinks and appetizers). On the last full day planned in Biloxi we took a trip to New Orleans to see if the area cleaned up from when we were last there. Conclusion: "been there - done that" ... probably wouldn't travel back again. French Quarter was rather dirty. The bars and eating places did not appear well kept and many were dark and appeared 'damp'. However, great street photos, cemeteries, colorful buildings and architecture.
Heading back in the afternoon, we took a chance to visit the 'Busted Wrench Garage' museum. A family owned museum of collectables - cars, bikes, motorcycles and more, that was very interesting to see and walk through. We chatted with the owner and daughter, who said all the cars were his personal cars. We felt like we were in the show American Pickers. Then in late afternoon, we headed back to the 'Scarlet Pearl' where we enjoyed dinner and as Mom 'bet the bank' at the tables, I vetted photos. Our trip home included shared driving, good roads and a side trip to St Marks to capture another photo collectible - the St Marks Lighthouse, Florida's second oldest and active lighthouse.
